Threads Social Media Platform Launches in Europe

Mark Zuckerberg’s new social media platform, Threads, is now accessible in countries within the European Economic Area, allowing users to browse without the need for a profile.

As reported a few days ago, Meta’s latest social media venture, Threads, has expanded its reach to countries within the European Economic Area. Positioned as a clear contender to Twitter, Threads draws its foundation from Instagram’s codebase, rather than Facebook’s.

While Threads became available in most parts of the world earlier in the summer, compliance with the European Union’s digital market regulations delayed its accessibility in Europe until now. Despite the prolonged wait, this move ensures that the platform aligns with the region’s regulatory framework.

One notable positive aspect is that, despite its humble launch almost six months ago, Threads has undergone substantial development over time. European users can now benefit from a more refined service from the outset. Additionally, the platform has addressed an initial limitation, eliminating the need for users to delete their Instagram accounts to remove their Threads profiles.

Another noteworthy European feature is compliance with the mentioned regulation, allowing users to explore the platform without creating an account. However, users in this mode are restricted to browsing only; posting, commenting, following, and liking are unavailable without registration.

In addition to the Threads mobile apps, the platform can be accessed from web browsers via threads.net. With this recent expansion, an additional 448 million users now have the opportunity to engage with Threads.
