Rumors Circulate About the Upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro and Slim Models

As time flies by, it’s hard to believe that we’re already approaching the third year since Sony and Microsoft introduced the current generation of gaming consoles, namely the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S, back in November. These consoles promised greater performance, 4K resolution, and 60 frames per second refresh rates, with the possibility of 8K gaming tantalizingly mentioned. However, the reality hasn’t always lived up to these lofty expectations.

Currently, there are hardly any premium titles that run natively at 4K resolution and 60fps on these consoles. Even the highly anticipated Microsoft-exclusive Starfield, set to be released soon, struggles to achieve 4K at 30fps on the 200,000-strong Redmond giant’s console. As a result, it comes as no surprise that both Sony and Microsoft are secretly working on even more powerful consoles, which are expected to genuinely deliver 4K resolution at 60 frames per second for games.

PlayStation 5 Pro: A Glimpse into the Future

According to the latest rumors, Sony is already hard at work on the next iteration of their PlayStation, and an early version has been sent out to game developers, as reported by Notebookcheck, citing a Reddit leak. Current information suggests that we can expect two new PlayStations within the next year and a half:

  1. PlayStation 5 Slim: This version would maintain the performance of the current console but would sport a slimmer and lighter design.
  2. PlayStation 5 Pro: Internally, this model is already being touted as the world’s most powerful console. Both are expected to debut around the second half of 2024, just in time for the holiday season.

There’s even speculation that the PS5 Pro might launch alongside one of the most anticipated games of all time, GTA VI, in a bundle package. This aligns with the leaked information surrounding GTA VI, including gameplay details, making a 2024 release seem quite plausible. Additionally, the next installment of the Final Fantasy series is rumored to debut exclusively on the PS5 Pro, indicating that Square Enix was among the first to receive the developer version of the new console.

Pricing Speculation

While there’s no official information regarding the pricing of these upcoming PlayStation models, we can make educated guesses based on past trends. The current PlayStation 5 is priced at $499, and it’s likely that the Slim version, with similar specifications, will be released at a slightly lower price point, somewhere between $399 and $449.

The situation for the Pro version is different. It’s almost certain that it will maintain the $499 recommended retail price, but there’s a possibility that Sony might add an extra $50 to $100 to the price, considering they’re gearing up to announce the world’s most powerful gaming console. Of course, the response from Microsoft and Xbox remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: they won’t be left behind in the console race.

As we anticipate the arrival of the PlayStation 5 Pro and Slim models, gamers can look forward to improved performance and graphics, potentially bundled with highly awaited titles like GTA VI and the next Final Fantasy installment. While the exact prices are still shrouded in mystery, the competition between Sony and Microsoft promises to keep the gaming industry exciting in the years to come. Keep your controllers charged and your screens ready; the future of gaming looks bright.
