Keyboards have remained largely unchanged for decades, and the thought of introducing a new command button arises relatively infrequently. In 2019, Microsoft did propose the possibility, but it did not gain widespread adoption.
However, a change is on the horizon as Microsoft’s PC keyboards will now feature a dedicated Copilot button.
The traditional right-sided Ctrl key on keyboards will be retired to make room for this innovation. The specific placement of this key depends on the manufacturer but is typically found on the right edge of the row to the right of the space bar, just to the left of the arrow keys.
Pressing the button will activate Copilot, an artificial intelligence deeply integrated into Windows. In regions where the service is unavailable due to geographical restrictions, the Windows search feature will come to the forefront.
The first keyboards featuring this addition will debut at the upcoming CES exhibition in Las Vegas, starting next week. The release is expected by the end of February. Microsoft is extending its AI service to other platforms as well, with Copilot already available for Android devices and iPhones.
